The Lasvit Crystal Wall (LCW) is a modular system of crystal components with coating and basic variability of twenty patterns. This modular system consists of seven combinable elements mounted in a steel load-bearing construction. The LCW is designed for luxurious and public interiors and follows the tradition in the manner of application of glass in Czechoslovak representative architecture of the 1960s and 1970s.
With this project, Koncern Studio responds to the phenomenon of branding plagiarism and design piracy in all fields. In today´s Western society, there is a fierce effort to prevent unauthorized copying, although the entire Western civilization is composed of the characters, patterns and inventions of other civilizations that have been laboriously copied since the Middle Ages. Porcelain is still called “china” in English or, to cite another example, the entire 19th century is characterized by the complete appropriation of Arabic patterns.
Koncern Studio created a collection inspired by the desire to tackle the issue of domestic violence. The Golden Edition collection was created in cooperation with the Ruckl Crystal, a.s. glassworks. Employing the medium of this non-commercial project, Koncern Studio sarcastically comments on this social phenomenom. The collection contains a decanter, a glass for red wine, a martini glass, a cocktail glass, a vase, a chandelier and a gilded cleaver, all manufactured from 24% gilded lead crystal.
Koncern Studio found a new application for classic cut-crystal-glass technology and designed five collections entitled Engineering. For each set we took over engineering characters – dimensions, roughness signs, shapes of engineering components etc. It has given us an opportunity to creatively explore the unique aesthetics in theglass medium which can be produced by the classic cut-glass technology - by manual methods and via the use of CNC machines.
